Seattle/Kona based Jazz Educator and Trumpeter
Paul was a music educator in the Seattle area for 36 years that taught band and jazz band at all levels from elementary through college. He now spends time living in both Seattle and Kona. His Jazz Bands were often among the best in the country placing first in many prestigious collegiate festivals including the Berklee College, University of North Texas, University of Nevada and University of Idaho festivals. Through invitation his jazz bands have performed at the IAJE Convention in NYC, the National MENC Convention in Washington DC as well as the North Sea and Montreux Jazz Festivals in EuropePaul also founded the pH Factor Big Band in 2008 and led the group until his retirement in 2023. The group produced two albums, The Music of Mat Montgomery and In Case of Emergency: Break Glass which are available on all streaming services. In retirement, Paul is looking forward to being more available as a clinician, mentor and consultant to music educators looking for the best from their students as well as continuing to play trumpet.
